[K-Drama Review] Rooftop Prince

Rooftop Prince may not be the best among the dramas lately, story-wise or ratings-wise, but if given the chance to choose again (and I'd tell you it was no easy feat to choose between Park Yoochun, Lee Seung Gi and Lee Joon Hyuk. Hmp!), I'd gladly waste my 20 hours with Park Ha and The Power Rangers all over again. Good story and good acting be damned. I can always get back to The King 2 Hearts and Equator Man any time I want. Hello dramacrazy and DVD! But the time I spent following Lee Gak and the Joseon gang was precious for me as a Cassie and as a sageuk-crazed fan.

Now that I got that out, let's get to the good stuff...

The part that I loved so much in Rooftop Prince and I think the part that saved this drama from all that absurdity is the camaraderie of the Joseon power rangers~ Prince Lee Gak, Man Bo, Chi San and Yong Sul. Who wouldn't love these guys?

 It’s not just because they are handsome men (although that's a pulling force too), but because they make me laugh out loud as I watched them struggle to learn modern life. There are a lot of F4 versions out there in Kdramaland that sometimes I feel like it’s getting old and don’t have that awesome feel to it anymore but this four showed me a whole new version of F4 - a wacky, adorable and alienated version.

I mentioned this on my previous blog that if it is sageuk, fusion or traditional, IM IN. Although most of RP's scenes were in modern time, I treasured the scenes that showed the Joseon era and the characters in pretty hanboks. Also, I loved watching Park Yoochun in his Joseon prince attire. I loved him in Sungkyunkwan Scandal and anything that reminds me of it is a chance I wouldn’t miss.

Then there’s the love that transcends time. 300 years to be exact. The story of this drama revolves around the love of Prince Lee Gak and Bo Yong who never got together in Joseon time because of some petty manipulation. The Prince was given the chance to correct it (although that was not his purpose at the beginning) and be with the one who truly loves him. Time-travelling and all that, if it wasn’t epic love I don’t know what is.

The kissing scene! Yay for kissing scene that not only made the actors touch their lips together like frigid robots. If you're watching too much Kdrama like me, their take on a "kissing scene" is so frustrating sometimes. I mean, come on! Let them kiss the way real couple kiss! haha. To emphasize my point, let’s watch this...

Is that satisfying or what? It may not be as hot as Yoon Eun Hye’s and Kang Ji Hwan’s kisses in Lie To Me but it’s definitely much better than the other lame kisses out there. Yay for Han Ji Min for agreeing to do that. And for Yoochun as well! (Although I know a lot of fangirls had been mending their broken hearts after seeing that kiss. I know, I know! Let's drink soju y'all!) Wooh!

Lastly, Park Yoochun! A third-time Baeksang Awards winner and a promising actor of his generation. I wouldn't miss it for the world. ^_^
